There’s something processed and mainstream about music that gets too much airplay, and I’d hate to see this happen to Kristen Ford’s lead track Radio off her debut album Tighten It Up. Perhaps it’s the skeptic in me going: this is too special for your basic digital avenues. In fact, this is exactly the sentiment that Kristen tries to convey in her lyrics for this gem of an indie rock song. Kristen Ford sounds great with the live electronic guitar arrangement, which picks up later in the song, and generally impresses with the authenticity of her personality.
Boston based act Kristen Ford Band just premiered their brand new video for the song “Radio” off their forthcoming release “Tighten It Up”. The effort happens to be a live studio album that is the perfect way to captures the essence and the in-the-moment feel of the album that gives you the highest possible emotional intensity that is perfectly captured in this clip. I had the opportunity to see her in concert several months back at The Middle East, and she definitely has that unbridled creative flow that is refreshing to hear in its finished form and gives off a new breed of singer-songwriter that is more capable of holding her own and standing her ground amidst the growing and crowded field.
At a time when nearly everything is processed and filtered, it’s refreshing to see an artist confident enough to work without a net. You watch as it unfolds and her smooth style draws you in, as does her personally invested lyrics. Her no-nonsense style comes through loud and clear in this format, adding to the poignancy of her music.
Proud to present her brand new, footstomping ode to the cassette.
Ford plays a one-woman mix of genres constellating the indie-rock/dance-pop of bands like Mister Wives, Phoenix and Walk the Moon, her upbeat delivery belying confessional lyrical content
